Lokpanchayat runs a local tafe/university that helps rural students learn practical and IT skills.  It was originally funded by a Volkswagen branch only 70km from the institute.  They now need more funding to complete the top level of the building but first they are going to build a dorm for girls who live far away to stay on campus.

Staff come from very practical backgrounds and most have run their own business.  They are able to speak many different languages and dialects as most of the students don't speak the same dialect.

The building was very rough around the edges and needs a fair bit of work but the structure is good.  We suggested that while finishing the construction of the building they should teach the students at each step of the constructions.  There is also things they could consider like mentor programs and maybe vacation work with Volkswagen if they is possible. Lokpanchayat have a great scheme going where students upcycle old metals and whatever they make they keep the profit.  It is a great earn learn scheme which gives they students some extra cash.

We had a meeting with the students. Most are from tribal or nomad communities.  Girls were not interested in doing the more technical courses like mechanics.  Instead were interested in doing IT and Sewing.  Thank god we prepared for a song because sure enough we were greeted with a school hymn sung by the students.  We gracefully sung the national anthem and repeating the first verse twice.

Lokpanchayat does great work with woman self help groups.  We met with one of the groups that had made great progress.
They sung us songs about educating your children and trust, which they had written themselves.
Unable to understand the woman sitting next to me she was still so humbling.
The 4 of us were presented with a coconut as a gift for good fortune. The whole time the SHG leader was sitting next to me and trying to talk to me.  I couldn't understand her at all but she was still so humbling.
