Day 18

Day 18: Started our drive to Auroville. On the way we visited the Uluru children's home. It is located along the seaside in an area that was affected by the tsunamis in 2002. Ofcourse there were more girl children than boys as girls are generally not adopted if their parents pass.
You would not guess that it was a home for orphaned or disadvantaged kids just by looking at the place. It is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever been to. The path is set with stones and surrounded by huts. It looks sort of like a seaside resort.
The other projects that they work on include an education bus that goes around to local schools and teaches different curriculum, sort of like Harold the giraffe in Australia. (anyone else remember Harold?)

After arriving in Auroville I would have to say that it is probably one of the strangest places I've ever been. There are 90 year old women riding motorbikes down the main street and hippies everywhere.  There are hardly any Indians, mostly Europeans. It is nothing like the Indian cities where there are millions of people, or even rural areas of India because it is surrounded with forest.  I'm really starting to wonder why everyone flocks to this town.
Dinner was a delight. We ate at Tantos which included pizza, salad, juice, tea, cake and homemade sorbet. Definitely needed the break from all the curry.

We are staying at the Olive and it is probably the best accommodation so far.  Ann and I are sharing a huge room, The garden reminds me of something the British would have loved when they we ruling India and it has really good WiFi on the grass so thumbs up all round.
